The new 'work culture'

Since the time I have started working, I have heard many of my bosses and senior managers highlighting the term ‘work culture’. Initially I used to seriously consider and respect this so-called culture, however, with time and experience I have started mocking it. The reason is that it was just an invisible concept used to sound a bit sophisticated.       So what exactly is work culture? During the interview rounds, candidates are informed about the so called work culture and ethics which the company has that is different from everyone else. It is only once an employee starts working they get to know the reality of it. All this work culture or company rules are only on paper and they keep changing as per the conditions.       A work culture is something which emphasises uniformity and helps the higher authority remain unbiased towards their employees. Aap koi celebrity ho jo aapka kaam jaldi ho jaega? (Are you a celebrity to get your job done faster?)

    This is a statement I recently heard while visiting a bank in my city. It simply put a question into my head – what is the value of a common man? The moment you wake-up and pull out a newspaper to read what do you find in it? What do you see on social-media and television? What are we constantly being told? Whom are we all following? It is only some or the other person who has earned a celebrity status. Till you are a celebrity, you are a nobody. Eat like some famous actor, work-out to get a figure like this model, sleep like some celebrity guru tells you. Every now and then, you are only being told what all you should do that some or the other celebrity does.      My only question to everyone who propagates this celebrity culture is – Why can’t a common person be left like a common person? Is being a common person worthless? Why is it that only celebrities are given so much of priority, consideration and privilege at every point? I am sure people work really hard to get a celebr
